Even as a young boy, Fred had always loved the restaurant business;
beginning with washing
dishes for his parents at age nine. He was so determined to learn
the business
that he would stand by his parents’ side, atop a soapbox, just to
get in on the “action”.
He learned everything from washing dishes, to cooking, to
bookkeeping. By the time he was 18, he found that cooking
was his
true passion. But this would have to wait: Fred enlisted in the
United States Air Force, with a tour in Germany. Upon
returning to
Oregon, Fred ran into a high school friend by the name of JoAnna.
They dated, fell in love & were married shortly
thereafter.
Fred &
JoAnna (“Pops” & “Peg” - as they would later become known)
opened their first restaurant in 1959 in Portland,
Oregon. After 35 years
& 18 restaurants together, they retired & moved from
Eugene, Oregon to Reno, Nevada. However, after
working 7 days a week
most of their lives, they soon realized that retirement wasn’t for
them. So back to work they went. Wanting to have
a little business
to pass the days with, Peg’s was born. Slowly but surely, their
kids followed in their footsteps. There is now
four “Peg’s” operated
by the “kids,” and even some grandchildren. But don’t be surprised
if you see “Pops” & “Peg” walking around
the restaurant,
checking that the same “glorified” food & “egg-cellent” service
is being provided. Be sure to say hello &
congratulate them on their
53rd wedding anniversary! Peg’s
Glorified Ham n Eggs has been a family owned & operated
restaurant since 1999.
